Caught On Camera!

It's all very well remastering old films and television series, having them in High-Definition, and Blu-Ray, but it's not always the right thing to do. Clarity of picture can reveal a whole host the things which were never meant to be seen. Such as the dividing line between the frames of film put together after filming 'The Schizoid Man.' You can see the dividing line on the carpet, which continues to run up the back wall. And the lighting on the right of the picture is slightly darker than it is on the left. This is not quite so noticeable on videos prior to remastering of 'the Prisoner' on DVD.

Be seeing you

Your screen-captures have improved in quality. Is this from the Network DVD set?

    1. Hello Arthur,

Nice to hear from you again.
Yes the picture is taken from the Network DVD, which I do use from time to time, but not always.
A friend of mine once told me that he had watched 'the Prisoner' on blu-ray. He said it was like watching 'the Prisoner' as though it had only been filmed yesterday. I said "the only thing is, it wasn't!" Clarity of picture and restoration of films is one thing, but remastering and turning it into blu-ray simply for the sake of it is another.
There was a film which had been remastered, I think it was 'The Big Country.' After the film had been remastered they discovered that to get it into wide-screen, the film had been put together in such a way that three strips of film had been edited together, and the join was all too apparent after watching the remastered film on the big screen. They had spoiled the film, that the remastering had to be reversed!

      Kind regards

I hear what you are saying, David. For myself I have tried to resist the lure of Blu-ray because I have only just finished replacing my video collection with DVDs and was reluctant to start all over again. No doubt if I do start collecting Blu-rays, the moment I complete my collection an even better format will come on the scene! More ways to make you pay for the same old thing *sigh*.

Keep up the good work :-)

    3. Hello Arthur,

I still have 'the Prisoner' on video, one set dating back to 1986, and before that to 1982, the old Precision videos produced by ITC. They still play just as well today as they did originally.
And I quite agree "they" find new ways of making people pay money for the same thing, Network DVD are very good at doing that!
As for the next format to release 'the Prisoner' on, perhaps for the 50th anniversary of the series, I will suggest to you what I suggested to a friend of mine a couple of years ago.....'the Prisoner' in 3D! Perhaps the ultimate and final format for the series.

      Kind regards
      David
