The Village Cat!

On the question of cats. There is always a cat in residence at No. 10 Downing Street. Towards the end of Prime Minister’s question time last Wednesday July 13th the out-going Prime Minster David Cameron said that he loved Larry the nine year old Tabby cat. He also said he would not be taking Larry with him when he left 10 Downing Street that evening as the former Prime Minister, as he goes with the office. So when the new Prime Minister Mrs Theresa May moved into 10 Downing Street later that evening, Larry was still in residence to welcome her.
This made me think of The Village cat In ‘Dance of The Dead, Number 2 told Number 6 the cat was hers, saying that the cat also works in The Village, describing her as being very efficient, almost ruthless {or is that Number 2 describing herself I’ve never been sure}. That being the case, if we place ‘Dance of The Dead’ second, which was its original indented placing in ‘the Prisoner’ series, this would then account as to why the cat is still in The Village by the time of ‘Many Happy Returns’ as it walks into Number 6’s cottage at Number 2’s feet. The fact that the cat lives in The Village, and was only Number 2’s cat while she was in office, meant that when she left, the former Number 2 could not take the cat with her!
I enjoy it when an act in reality triggers thoughts about a similar fictitious situation in ‘the Prisoner.’

Be seeing you

  1. Villains in movies or TV Shows often seem to be cat fanciers. Blofeld of the Bond movies always had a white cat, while No. 2 had a black one. Perhaps this is why some viewers of 'The Prisoner' expected an evil guy like Blofeld as No. 1.

    1. Hello Michael,
Well there’s a thought! Because if one sets aside the allegorical content of ‘Fall Out,’ what do you have? A Bond film style ending to ‘the Prisoner,’ the villain ultimately despatched in a rocket!

      Best regards
      Be seeing you
