Caught On Camera

Generally speaking No.6 is the only citizen in the village to wear the style of piped blazer he does. But in one particular case the new No.2 of Arrival, not only wears an identical blazer to No.6, but also the same clothes in general!
Be seeing you.

  1. Hi David,
Perhaps McGoohan decided that having Number 2 wearing the identical colored outfit would infer that Number 6 and Number 2 were working on the same side.
Also, I believe that the decision to have different Number 2's was a deliberate decision...meant to show how difficult it would be to figure out WHO was in charge..what side they were on.
It would be quite upsetting to be kidnapped, drugged, and wake up not knowing WHERE you were, WHO had kidnapped you, WHAT was going on and HOW you were going to act and react.
In Arrival, Number 6 is introduced into the Village...that there is food he can either fix, or purchase at the restaurant. He is shown the Labour Exchange, even though we are not shown if he actually worked for those credit units or not!
He is shown a demonstration of Rover's power to control and/or kill.
He sees medical experiments in the hospital..and knows that there is a hospital. He was even told that he might see people that he knew!
He was adamant that he would not tell them anything...even though at the time he didn't know anything about where he was or who had kidnapped him...and never changed his mind even though he knew he was under their control even in his dreams!

If the show was actually about his dreams, then anything and everything can be explained away...as in our dreams..anything is possible.

    1. Dear Karen,
Having the new Number 2 in ‘Arrival’ wearing the different attire does have the effect of making him stand out from all the other Number 2’s, as he is the only one to wear such attire of piped blazer etcetera.
Why he is dressed identically as Number 6 I’ve no idea. So your guess is as good as anyone’s.
Even if it is all a dream, I’ve still never found it easy to explain away ‘the Prisoner,’ but at least that would explain why there is no logic to ‘the Prisoner.’ Dreams can be awfully complex, and sometimes are beyond explanation I’ve found…………that’s ‘the Prisoner’ for you!

      Best regards

  2. Hi David . .
That mystery is what I love about The Prisoner !
Speaking of the outfit that Number 6 and others wore in The Prisoner . ...in Arrival . .did you see the man playing with a beach ball by the Stone Boat when Number 6 is first shown the boat and he asked if they were there because they had St. Vitus Dance?
    Another case of doppelgangers !

    1. Hello Karen,
I too enjoy the mystery of ‘the Prisoner,’ but at other times I enjoy the plain adventure of the series.
Yes I did see the man playing with the beach ball, he’s dressed like Number 14, the chess champion in ‘Checkmate,’ it could be that man, fictionally speaking. Also in that scene did you notice the two men dressed alike? And the ex-Admiral walking towards the Stone Boat with a woman, only moments before we see the ex-Admiral sat at a table waiting for a chess opponent? Of course it’s the “other” ex-Admiral sat by the Free Sea in ‘Arrival,’ seen by the Stone Boat. Both Admirals wear the same Number 66. Also the maid in ‘Arrival’ wears that number, as does the taxi driver who drives the Prisoner from the hospital. The fact that all four wear the same number 66, two I put down to the fact that both actors are supposed to be the same Ex-Admiral. But the taxi driver and the maid wearing the same 66 number has got to be a continuity error! Perhaps they thought no-one would notice!!

      Best regards
      David
