The Village Guardian

   Just what is this membranic 'thing?' Possibly it's alien to this world, but how it got here, and how it fell into the hands of the power behind the village I cannot say. More than likely it has been genetically engineered, seeing as it is made from membrane. Whether or not it is possible for this 'thing' to have independant thought is difficult to say. When it attacks it's prey, it seems to do so as a shark, it is attracted by movement. Hence when in Arrival, when No.2 orders everyone to "Be still," and that one citizen goes dashing about in circles, the village guardian quickly detects his movement and homes in on it's prey. And also in the episode of Checkmate, when the village guardian comes rolling and bounding along the streets of the village, all citizens step to the side of the street and are absolutely still. There is a theory that the village guardian is also symbolic, in that it represents our own fears that lurk in the deepest recesses of the mind.
   But at the end of the day, whatever one may make of the village guardian, it is still only a meterological weather balloon!
