Thought For The Day

When during Checkmate, No.6 is out and about in the village choosing those 'reliable men,' such as the Rook-No.54, Painter-42, and No.99 the Shopkeeper. No.6 takes on a voice of authority, and tells No.99 that they want to check his books, to carry out an audit of the Shopkeepers accounts no less. To which No.99 puts up a defensive manner, and responds "Well they've never been checked before." "There's always a first time, isn't there!" No.6 replies.
So I wonder why it is, that the Shopkeepers books have never been checked before?!
Be seeing you.
