The Therapy Zone

In Checkmate two experiments are conducted on two citizens of the Village, at the instigation of the doctor-No.22. No.58-the Rook, is subjected to a Pavlovian experiment, which was originally carried out on dogs. An experiment to do with salivation, through possitive and negative responses {in this case in order to avoid electrical shock from a water cooler}. The Rook is therefore conditioned to respond to the right command. The Rook obeyed the voice, and he got the water he craved because he had been dehydrated.
The second experiment was carried out on No.8, an experiment first carried out on Dolphins. Transmitters were implanted in their brains, so to detect submarines. The technique had not then been adapted to humans, but No.8 was conditioned, hypnotised, into believeing that she is in love with No.6, and he with her. A reaction responder in a locket, is placed about her neck, so that her emotions, if she is going to lose No.6 is transmitted back to the Control Room, and in so being part of the alarm system! It seems that the Village doctors are not averse to treating the good citizens like animals!
Be seeing you
