Like the Prisoner, we were all more than ready to meet No.1. The first time it happened back in 1968, I thought I was going to finally learn something, at least to discover who No.1 is. But I was to be disappointed, like many viewers at the time.
After the unmasking, a screaming No.1 ran about the Control Room, persued by the Prisoner, desperate to get his hands on No.1. With nowhere else to go, No.1 escapes the Prisoner's clutches by climbing the ladder into the nose cone of the rocket, with the Prisoner securing the hatch behind him.
I think we can all speculate as to what would have happened had the Prisoner got his hands on No.1. What might have been said, between the two men, which probably would not have been much. I can hardly imagine the Prisoner and No.1sitting down together and talking things over a cup of tea. That would have meant Patrick McGoohan having to have all the answers, to the questions we the television viewer were asking! BCNU
