'Yes, I Can't Wait To See Him!'

So just who is Fotheringay speaking to on the telephone during The Chimes of Big Ben? Remember he's in the Village, and not in the Colonels office in London. People who use a red telephone are normally thought to be speaking to Number One, but I doubt Fortheringay is high up enough in the Civil Service to be able to do that. Perhaps Fotheringay isn't on the telephone to anyone! That he's there just to help give credence to the idea that the Prisoner and Nadia are about to arrive in the Colonels office in London. A simple effect for the television viewer perhaps.
Another thing, the rank of Colonel is an Army ranking. So why is it that the majority of articles and picture decorations in his office are more fitting for an Admiral of British Naval Intelligence? I am minded of one of John Drake's superiors, who in serveral episodes, was an Admiral. No, I just think it's strange for the Colonel's office to have such a Naval look about it.  I'll be seeing you.

  1. Strange that Drake's original boss, Hardy, rarely gets a mention by prisoner fans whereas they keep chunnering on about Potter to an almost nauseating degree.

  2. Hi Moor,

Yes it is a pity that Hardy/Fotheringay does not get mentioned more. It is also a pity that it was not Richard Wattis as Fotheringay with the Colonel in 'Many Happy Returns.' That would have been a bit more continuity between the episodes, and more chance to see Richard Wattis in the series. His appearance during 'The Chimes of Big Ben' is all too brief.

  3. I put it down to the fact that Koroshi/Shinda Shima kept getting shown on 1990's TV (as they were in colour) whereas those old half-hour Danger Man episodes from 1960 were completely unknown to those bright young viewers of the 1990's....... :-D

Of course, if they had been able to see in black and white...... what stories WOULD they have made up about that nice young Number Two?..... :-D

  4. Hello Moor,

You might very well be right. Black and white televisions series do not fair well on television somehow. Especially the 25 minute episodes of 'Danger Man.'

Did you see the De Agostini 'Danger Man' Part-work a few years ago? They put 'Koroshi' and 'Shinda Shima' together as a film. The first of the collection in the 'Danger Man' series, when it should have been the last!

I like to see Hardy {Richard Wattis} as Drake's boss. Hardy gets Drake to do something he doesn't want to do, but then does it for a price! Drake was working for Security NATO at the time, so perhaps when Hardy had to pay Drake to do a job, Drake was working 'freelance!'

Nice young No.2 you say. Well perhaps. But I wonder what he would have had done to No.6 the day after Appreciation day? If he was still around that is.
