The Therapy Zone

“Look At Them Brainwashed Imbeciles.......
....... Can you laugh, can you cry, can you think?”
                                                 {No.6 Free For All}

   So this is it is it? A working democracy of the village, a 20th century Bastille that pretends to be a pocket democracy! Is it the result of failed previous No.2's, to wind up as brainwashed and incorporated onto the Town Council? After all the members of the Town Council are sub-divided No.2's, 2a 2b 2c 2d 2e 2f 2g 2h 2i 2j 2k 2l but none have a vote, none have a voice as a Council member. And as brainwashed imbeciles all must receive the best medical care, being unable to look after themselves.
    There are 12 members of the Town Council, with No.2 having the casting vote. But I cannot see that any such casting vote could ever possibly be needed. Everything would be carried unanimously, just as the vote of thanks to No.6 was carried unanimously.
  But why bother, I mean why bother to have a Town Council at all? Surely it wasn't for the sole benefit of No.6, unless of course this electoral process has been used to the same effect on other certain citizens of the village;
       "Is this, is this what they did to you? Is this how they tried to break you till they got what they were after?"
    In their heads is there a remnant of a brain, in their hearts the desire to be a human being again. Not if they have all undergone the treatment which the doctors at the hospital so readily recommend... a leucotomy. This the dislocation of the aggressive frontal lobes, which would explain their passiveness on the podiums.
    It was once said of No.6 "that he plays a fine game," well so too does the village. And in that perhaps lies their Achilles heel, they like to 'play the game' rather than take direct action against No.6. Anyone else they don't bother about, not men of the same calibre as No.6, a man whom they see as having a future with them. Lucky for No.6 then, that he was not co-opted onto the Town Council!

Living Disharmoniously

    No.6 was certainly disharmonious about the possibility of A Change of Mind, almost as much as he was about Living In Harmony! Neither one seemed to appeal to him for one reason or another, such was the man's unmutuality demonstrated in both episodes. Because Living In Harmony is a definite way to describe how the villages administration would like its citizens to live... in harmony with one another. But even then there's a great deal of unmutuality about the village, even when you don't bring No.6 into the equation. There's the 'lobo-man'-No.46 who has already gone through the ordeal of 'Instant Social Conversion', a lobotomy. In other words the dislocation of the frontal lobes! There's No.42 who always in tears, can't see what's so unmutual about that, being emotionally disturbed. Oh but then she failed to recognise No.10's greeting, at the time when she says she was busy composing poetry. No.93 was inadequate and disharmonious. Then there is No.86 who was once herself posted as being 'unmutual', how terrible for her! But hang on a minute, if No.42 was unmutual by ignoring No.10's greeting, how about that woman No.61 who No.6 greeted with a village salute and the greeting "A beautiful day Number Sixty One." But No.61 ignored No.6's greeting, was she posted as being unmutual I wonder?
     And certainly No.6 disharmonious about Living In Harmony, because when one of the towns people asks him "Well stranger, fancy living in Harmony?" he replies that it's "Not my kind of town." Others tell the stranger that it’s a good town. The stranger tells them to "Enjoy it." And the town’s people ask the stranger what's wrong with their town, he replies "Maybe I don't like the way it's run." "Oh you just do as the Judge says, he'll look after you." The stranger responds with "I look after myself!" "It's a good town" the town elder insists. "Keep it!" the stranger tells him, and you can't get more disharmonious or unmutal than that!
   So be it to live in Harmony, or being disharmonious about A Change of Mind, both can be associated with either episode, and for the very same reasons. And one further observation might be, that the towns people of Harmony would fit straight in with the community of the village during the episode of A Change of Mind. Mind you, having said that, Zeke, who doesn't need to wear a gun, is one of the mechanics seen working on the jet boat during the episode of Free For All, and who gets into a fight with No.6 aboard that very same boat. So what price other towns people of Harmony being of those good citizens of the village?

 Be seeing you
