This Week I Am Mostly Watching

In my opinion the final episode 'Checkmate' is over far too quickly, however there are those who think it not over quick enough, and they're talking about the whole series. Fans who are dead set against THEPRIS6NER-09 I urge them to give the series a second chance, if indeed they gave it a fair chance in the first place! They might grow to like it, others have.
More Village means that the Village is expanding, with newcomers arriving by bus, but then how is that possible if citiznes are to believe that there is only the Village? But where did they get on the bus? Why the Village, but this is the Village, well isn't that just the wildest thing!
Six isn't at all well. He received an appointment at the Clinic from the postman, who didn't ask Six to sign his number! Six is dying, but before he does, he makes Two a promise, that he'll find a way out before he dies.
This then is Two's final throw of the dice, to face Six with death, to turn 313 to Six in order to save him. Two want's to escape, Curtis and Helen want their lives back, and I'm not surprised about that. In Helen's subsconscious mind, 11-12 suffocates M2, and Helen can see and experience her own Village death. I didn't think it was possible for one to die in a dream. I know 11-12 died by hanging himself, but he didn't really exist, it's different for M2, as she exists in two places at the same time. Perhaps that's the secret.
If you have ever wondered why Six doen't escape the Village, well there's that membranic Village Guardian to stop him, conjured up in the subconscious mind of Six, together with his fear.
Two hands over the Village to Six, and escapes in the most dramatic way, by exploding a hand grenade, leaving Six and 313 to find a way to make a better Village. Oh the Village disappears because of the death of M2, and the escape of Two, leaving Six and 313 to build a Village from scratch.
Life must have been difficult for Two, as his wife was almost always sedated, dreaming Village. He could spend only a few minutes at a time with hs wife, for while M2 is conscious, holes begin to appear in the Village. It's no wonder Two wanted escape!

"We want Six, Six is the one. We want Six, Six is the one." And don't forget, breathe in......breathe out..........more......Village.

  1. When Patrick McGoohan created The Prisoner he had something he wanted to say - to yell even. Yes, the television series was an entertainment first and foremost, but it was also a work of art. What made The Prisoner special was not something easily defined (and how hard some people have tried) and certainly not something that could be turned into a 'franchise'.

The makers of the remake were seeking to cash-in on what they saw as a brand name. To them The Prisoner was just another Star Trek or Bionic Woman or Knigtht Rider.... nothing special. This time there was nothing to be said ... no love. They saw the result of McGoohan's genius as a 'franchise' and tried to exploit it.

    They failed.

Number Six won a final victory.

    1. Hello Anthony,

You are qutie right whn you say that Patrick McGoohan had something to say when he produced 'the Prisoner,' and much of that is still relevant today, social comment and such. Yet at the same time I can't understand why people get so emotional about the original series, after all when all is said and done, it is a television series, excellent entertainment, and escapism, not too sure about the work of art though. That was a debatable point back in the 1990's amongst fans.

And if that is how you feel about THEPRIS6NER-09 well that's fair enough, if you don't get it, you don't get it. {I've had someone else remark that its nothing more than people trying to cash-in on McGoohan's masterpiece} But regarding your point about THEPRIS6NER being nothing special, you obviously missed the point, the message it had to give.

      Regards
      David
