It is a very nice model of a Mini-Moke, well produced. It even comes complete with a figure behind the wheel, and a brown suitcase on the back seat. but it's not a Village Taxi. It has no candy striped canopy, or wooden panelling, and certainly no canopied Penny Farthing on the bonnet. The packaging is for 'the Prisoner,' there can be no mistaking that, and modern, as part of the box has a design used for a DVD box set of 'the Prisoner.' But the text of the packaging is not in "Village" Font! What's more, take the Mini-Moke out of it's packaging, and it's simply a Mini-Moke with a blue and white striped canopy.

This Mini-Moke puts me in mind of the one in a James Bond film, I forget which one.

It is a james bond one, it goes for about £8 on ebay. Just bought one myself. The taxi sign is rubbish and appears to cover the original number plate of KI 903

DeleteYes I thought it was a James Bond Mini-Moke. I thought at the time that the person who is responsible for producing this should be reported to ebay under the trades discription act, and I bet it's not a licensed product by Granada Ventures. Because if it was it would be in the correct Village livery. At the close of bidding for this particular product it sold for over £100!!! I thought at the time, couldn't the buyer see it wasn't a Village taxi? If the buyer was desirous for one, there are alsways plenty of the real Dinky 'Prisoner' Mini-Mokes for sale on ebay.

DeleteThe mokes are really nice and personally I do not like the Prisoner moke model and think this is better. So I delude myself into thinking I have a prisoner moke for £8 and not the gullable price this person is charging for their home made box and poorly photocopied map.

DeleteWell I suppose it's all down to personal choice. As a boy I thought the Dinky 'Prisoner' Mini-Moke was the bees-knees. But later as a collector of 'Prisoner' memorabilia and merchandise, I could see that the canopy wasn't right. So I spent time restoring two diecast Mini-Mokes to the correct Village livery, and that included the candy striped canopy and spare wheel cover. Not to mention a black and white striped canopy for the Village hearse! But again that is purely personal choice.
£8 is a fair enough price. I found it incredible that someone would pay a price well over the odds for it, especially as you say, the packaging is so poorly home-made, along with a photocopoied Village map.
When I bought an original Dinky 'Prisoner' Mini-Moke in the 1960's it cost me 7 shillings and 6d, or was it just 5 shillings, it was one or the other. I wish I had purchased more at the time, not to sell today, but for my own collection.

I really recommend the Bond Moke not only for the model but also for the the magazine that comes with it. It has a superb computer generated detailed drawing of it which is worth seeing.
I was fortunate to be able to drive a genuine Prisoner moke a few times. Eventually it was bought and restored by a friend of mine who sadly sold it and it went to the States. The moke had started to deteriorate again by then. Regards Richard

DeleteGood to hear from you again. An old friend of mine would be interested in the James Bond moke, as he is a big fan of James Bond, I'll recommend it to him.
May I ask if you drove the Prisoner mini-moke at Portmeirion, was it during a Prisoner Convention? Perhaps you drove it outside the Village. I only ask, because like yourself I was fortunate enough to get behind the wheel of a genuine Prisoner Mini-Moke at Portmeirion in 1998. The Moke once belonged to Max Hora, who used to run the Prisoner Information shop at Portmeirion. The moke, which had been restored once, but having fallen into a bad state of repair for a second time, was sold to someone I once knew living in Nottingham. Would that be the same Moke? Again I only ask because I know of only two original Prisoner Mini Mokes, one that used to be based at Portmeirion, and the second found in a Dutch barn in the Netherlands in 2011, and due for restoration.

DeleteSo over the years we have both been behind the same Village Mini-Moke. I shall not use the gentleman's name who hales from Nottingham, for privacy reasons, but it is clear we are talking about the same man, please give him my regards.
As it happens my wife and I were on holiday in Portmeirion when Max Hora's Mini-Moke was taken away. It made an awful noise when it was being loaded up onto a trailer, everything had ceased up on the Moke, it really was a very sorrowful sight, and painful on the ears!
I haven't been back to Portmeirion since 2003. Once upon a time I could hardly keep away from the Village. But places change, so do people, and for that reason I've not been back since. I've not felt the need to go back.
