Chess features in four out of the seventeen episodes of 'the Prisoner,' and it would seem that even the Butler is an afficianado of the game. Because during the chess match the Butler is following the game move by move from the top of the stone Bandstand on his own chessboard. Some fans of 'the Prisoner' have even gone so far as to suggest it is the Butler who is actually controlling the chess match by making the moves first!
