Teabreak Teaser
"Lye izeet azoon." How is it that Number 6 picks up on the language spoken by Number 58 so easily, especially as he had never heard her say this particular phrase before!
As it happens, there is no salute between No.2 and No.58 during the breakfast scene, I checked. the only salute between No.2 and No.58 appears towards the end of the episode in the foyer of the Green Dome. So there is no-way No.6 could have known the phrase in such a foreign language. In fact if you look at the scene it seems as though No.6 is teaching No.58 the phrase, as she seems to have been taken by surprise and jumps to attention to say the phrase herself.
It is a very interesting idea that No6 could have tried to teach No58 the salute. It also explains why he chose the salute. I've always thought that No58 reacts so excited because the Prisoner tried to speak her language, what for the new Number 2 must be a sign that he gives in, or at least bends a little (what in the next second really scares him..). But I think thats right, he really tried to teach her. Interesting point of view.
Well, and in a way he invented the language, didn't he?
Well that's certainly another way of looking at it, that No.58 reacts the ways she does, because No.6 has attempted to speak her language.
As for the language spoken by No.58, as a matter of fact it wasn't No.6 or even Patrick McGoohan who invented that language, but Rachel Herbert herself.
Rachel Herbert's language for No.58, was completley made up gibberish, yet has a basis on the sound of "Yugoslavian" as the country was then. Her brother at that time had a girlfriend who came from Yugoslavia, who helped her make the language up.
Hi David,
ReplyDeleteI think, he must have catched this phrase before, when Number 2 saluted her during their breakfast.
Kind regards,
Jana
