I wonder if the Prisoner knew what would happen to him once he'd handed in his resignation, would he still go ahead and do it? Is that why he was in such a hurry to get away, because he knew what would happen? Well of course he would, that's the kind of man he is, singleminded.ness Once he's made his mind up to do something he does it and damn the consequences!

Anyone who's ever resigned from a job knows that unless you're a day-labourer the way the man who'd become No. 6 did it isn't what you'd normally do. He was then quickly packing his suitcase before he was made unconscious. Why would he do so? One could therefore conclude that he, to some degree, knew about any impending response from his service. Most likely, however, an abduction of that kind he wouldn't have taken into account. - BCNU!

DeleteJust had a thought! Perhaps he really was going on holiday. Paris France perhaps. After all we see in 'A B and C' what would have happened had "they" not got to him first, well according to No.2. So perhaps it's as simple that the Prisoner was in a hurry to catch a plane!
