In the 1960s it wasn't uncommon for TV magazines to print more or less "funny" lines beneath film or series stills. When The Prisoner first aired in Germany something that could be called "the laughing Prisoner" was seen. I've 2 examples at hand showing one and the same scene from "Free For All" where No. 6 is held firmly by two guards with his arms stretched out. The first text beneath the picture says: "We always told you not to use too much starch." The other one: "Pull some 3 cm more and he'll be able to swim like Mark Spitz."
ReplyDeleteObservations: 1. Nobody knew that particular scene, "Free For All" wasn't screened in Germany in 1969. 2. Mentioning olympic swim star Mark Spitz indicates that this was published during the 1972 rerun. - BCNU!
