The Rocket!

    The destiny of Number 1 seems entwined with that of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, or possibly that should be the other way round - both fated to be sealed inside a rocket! As both Number 1 and Sir Clough Williams-Ellis {his ashes} were both loaded into a rocket and launched over the Italianate village of Portmeirion!

The Astro Or lava Lamp

    An iconic item from the so called "swinging sixties" which helps set a mood of peaceful tranquillity. Perhaps that is the reason why this lava lamp image is seen so frequently on the large wall screen in No.2's office. To help create a calming atmosphere! 

   Yet in the village the lava lamp, which is seen to be in many cottages, rooms, and offices throughout the Village, seems to me to be symbolic, symbolic of the village guardian. A daily reminder to the citizens of the village just what is lurking outside in the Village, that white membranic village guardian Rover.

   Also as I look at my own lava lamps here in my home, there appears to me something malevolent about the perpetually moving wax, symbolic of Rover, malevolent because it looks as though it would do you harm if only it could escape it's confinement within lava lamp!

The more I think about it, the more I study the Prisoner, the more I am convinced that it all begins with ‘Fall Out!’

Preparing To Leave!

   The prisoner having resigned his job, returned home to collect the pair of suitcases which his manservant, the Butler, had packed for him. These together with his passport, airline ticket, and two magazines.

  It would seem that like Cobb, the Prisoner was expecting them, well who could not blame him after the violent and bloody revolution he instigated during Fall Out. The Prisoner was sure there would be hell to pay for that, and so having resigned, and realising that "they" would be coming for him, the Prisoner tried to get away. But even then he wasn't quick enough, as he had been followed through London by the pair of undertakers in the hearse which has just pulled up outside!

Appreciation For The Prisoner

    To say that I am not so appreciative of the two episodes ‘Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling’ and ‘Living In Harmony’ and the fact that they are not on my list of favourite episodes, cannot be denied.  

    However I have to say that there is one thing which is very much in their favour, these two episodes, and that is the music composed for them both.

   After listening to the third cd of the above disc set, I can now appreciate both ‘Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling’ and ‘Living In Harmony’ if only for their quality of music. And if only that, then it demonstrates that the whole of the Prisoner series can be appreciated on many levels, and appreciation of it's music is but one level which can be appreciated in its own right.
