   So who are these people who leave the Village? Well No.2 obviously. Then there's Cobb, Fotheringay, the Colonel, and Nadia. Top Hat administration officials, working as agents for the Village, who function as Undertakers. People with a certain kind of job who have had their minds transferred with another subject, who are then sent out into the world to gather information. They are then returned to the Village to have that information extracted. All unpleasant memories of the Village wiped from their minds, and then they are sent out in the world to gather yet more information, and so it goes on. Oh yes, I forgot one, the regular helicopter pilot!

   Footnote: Have you ever observed how painful it seems for No.2 to talk to No.6 about those who talk and those who don't, those who leave the Village, and those who don't?
