The Prisoner Press Conference 1967

It seems strange to me, that seeing as how Patrick McGoohan kept most women, with whom he came into contact with during his acting career, at "arms length" so to speak. Strnage that it should be the magazine of the day ‘Woman’s Own’ which gets Patrick McGoohan's story. I presume that at least on of the ladies pictured here with Patrick McGoohan is from 'Woman's Own.' I wonder why a woman's magazine should have been interested in 'the Prisoner,' or was the attraction simply the man Patrick McGoohan which drew their attention?

  1. Hello David,
I believe undoubtedly that Patrick McGoohan was the reason for this interview and interest in The Prisoner was supplementary.I'm sure that Im not alone In making this comment !
Greetings from Davos and hope you are feeling better.

    1. Hello Anna,
I am sorry for this late reply, I ahev to admit that I've not been quite myeself recently, but I am feeling much better now.
Yes I agree, Patrcik McGoohan would have been the main interest, and 'the Prisoner' a secondary interest, if at all! Because the interview in Woman's Own magazine is about McGoohan and ;'Danger Man.'

My very best wishes to you and Paul

  2. The most attractive actor of time, wasn't he. To me still more intriguing is the guy with film camera! Who was he, where did he come from (newsreel, TV)? What happened with the footage? Was it ever recovered? - BCNU!

    1. Hello Arno,
Again a late reply, very remiss of me! I'm not at all sure who is filming McGoohan talking to those ladies, but h must have filmed the whole preceedings of that Conference. It might very well have been someone from the production of 'the Prisoner.' I know that members of the press were there, but I don't know about a TV or newsreel film crew. As far as I am aware, no such film of that Press Conference has ever been televised. Does it still exist? I really could not say, I imagine it lost. In fact, as far as I am aware, you are the first person to ask about the filming of that Press Conference!

      Very kind regards
      David

  3. One person you and I know once mentioned the cameraman on the stills. Strange that this obvious detail did not receive the attention it deserves. Perhaps Patrick disapproved of the footage after he saw it, how weird this "press conference" had been in reality. Just speculating. - BNCU!

    1. Hello Arno,
Oh, so it was mentioned by someone. But yes you are quite right, this "Press Conference" has never really been paid the attention it deserves. I know it was written about in one of the Number Six magazines, but that's about it really.
As you say it was a pretty weired "Press Conference," because when members of the press began to ask McGoohan questions, from behind the bars of that cage. McGoohan, instead of answering those questions, turned the tables by asking the questions of the press! I suppose he thought he was being clever! McGoohan could never be straightforward where 'the Prisoner' is concerned!

      Very kind regards

  6. Hello David and thank you Arno for posting the videos about the press conference. This is the first time I have seen anything like this and I found them really interesting.
So - the enigmatic Mr. McGoohan would only answer questions with questions .How grandiloquent of him ! ( I like that word )
    Regards Anna : )

Indeed, it's intriguing to see the event was apparently filmed, yet no footage ever surfaced. Would be very cool to watch!

    1. Hello Irina,
Good to hear from you. Alexis Kanner attempted to ride a Penny Frathing bicycle at that press conference, but he fell off!
The Press were supposed to have asked Patrick McGoohan the questions, but apparently he turned the tables, and it was he who asked members of the press the questions! Yes as far as I am aware no film of that press conference exists, pity!
I hope you continue to enjoy reading my posts, and find something to interest you.

      Best regards
      David
      Be seeing you
