{Number Two – Dance of the dead}
Number 2 is on the telephone speaking presumably to Number One. Number One who would seem to have expressed his regrets that he cannot attend the Ball in the evening, hence No.2's response "Yes, I wish you could come too."
If No.1 had turned up at the Ball in the evening, that would have livened things up a bit. But then how would anyone know? How would No.6 know that the man behind the big door is there? Everyone in fancy dress and some wearing masks, well all except for Number 6 and the butler! And yet, taking in mind the episode of ‘Fall Out,’ then Number 1’s other self is at the Ball!

No. 1 may have turned up at the masked ball but completely without a mask so everyone would certainly believe it was his very special mask or disguise.

But no, that would be too easy, as we have privilaged information, that of 'Fall Out.' Such privilaged information might not have been available at the time of 'Dance of the Dead.'

A picture puzzle, a distorted mirror image, vexing. That's what I think is "behind" (that word hardly describes it) the masking as such. - BCNU!
