It would not have made the slightest difference if M2 had been conscious in the Village. There could still have been holes appearing in the Village when Helen was awake in New York, instead of M2 being awake in the Village. And M2 could have spent time with the son, would have got to know him, instead of having to ask Two about her 11-12 each time she wakes up! Also Two and M2 would have been able to live their lives together in the Village, with their son 11-12 instead of suffering the fragmented family that it is.
One other thing. We are always seeing Two with his sedated wife M2 in their house in the Village, and yet it is not until Checkmate that we see Curtis with his wife Helen in their apartment in New York together. I suppose Curtis must be there with his wife, in order to maintain her sedation, and feeding her those hallucinogentic drugs which allows her to keep dreaming the Village. But in Checkmate when Two pulls the pin of that hand grenade and it explodes, releasing Two from the Village, Curtis appears in his New York apartment giving the impression that he has physically been away in the Village and had just that moment returned. In fact there is no way Curtis could have physically been in the Village, only in his subconsciousness, his physical being would have been in New York all the time. Bill Gallagher said of THEPRIS6NER, that all the loose ends would be tied up in the final episode, I think Bill also got that one wrong!

ReplyDeleteI totally agree, Gallagher made a mistake in this decision. I think he overcomplicates things.
I guess one could make up an explanation why M2 has to be sedated in the village, too. It might be meant in a way that Helen is dreaming that M2 is dreaming the Village, so that there are different layers of conciousness and dream. But why it has to be that way, I don't know. Maybe simply to add something to wonder about or the like..

DeleteAs it happens, I recall in Checkmate, in Curtis' apartment, he explains to Michael that there might be many different levels of the subconscious, which is an idea explored in the film 'Inception.' So your idea about Helen dreaming dreaming the Village, in which M2 is dreaming the Village might be wholy plausable. But as you say, why has it to be that way?

Hmm.. one idea I had is that you have to have a good dream to dream a good village. So maybe Helen had to be her self in the village to make sure to have better dreams.. or the like. But that's like chasing the own tail.

DeleteI'm sure that a good Village, a moral Village can be dreamt, and at the end of the series Six is going to try and find a better way with the help of 313. But then it's not Six who is gong to be dreaming the Village. In the mind of Helen I don't think the Village was that bad a place. People who were brought to her Village were made better people and released back to their lives in New York. I think in the Village to be dreamt in the mind of 313 is about to take a turn for the worst. It's like I have always said, the Village is a state of mind, and 313/Sarah's mind is in a pretty bad state!
