A Change of Mind!
Number 6 is special, he is seen to have a
future a future with The Village, and that’s why the tissue {the brain} must
not be damaged. He’s also a stubborn fellow, and a hard to break individual,
but no extreme measures are to be used against him because of his “special”
status, which helps him out a great deal. Nevertheless he is also a survivor,
and survived several very hard ordeals without breaking, even after what they
did to him in ‘The Schizoid Man.’ When they say they don't want to damage him
they mean that they still want to be able to use his mind. They don’t want to “lose”
Number 6, and Number 2 in ‘A Change of Mind’ emphasised the point when he tapped
the side of his head. Even if they had broken Number 6 physically, they could
have used the Seltzman machine to implant his mind in another body!
