Thought For The Day
Why
is it ZM73 made no mention of his meeting with both Fotheringay and the Colonel
in The Village during his de-briefing by Thorpe and the Colonel in ‘Many Happy Returns?
He may have done of course, and we are simply not privy to that. After all ZM73
would have had to explain what was on the roll of film he wanted developed. But
if we set that to one side, I had the idea that if ‘Many Happy Returns’
appeared in the series before ‘The Chimes of Big Ben’ then there would be no
reason for ZM73 to make mention of Fotheringay and the Colonel because it
wouldn’t have happened by the time of ‘The Chimes of Big Ben.’ So I checked the
production or library order of ‘the Prisoner,’ but ‘Chimes’ still precedes ‘Return’
as it does in the series. So that idea fell on stony ground, but I still like
it. And yet that doesn’t explain why ZM73 didn’t make mention of both previous meetings
with the two Colonels, Fotheringay and Thorpe to Sir Charles Portland in ‘Do
Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling.’ But I suppose circumstances alter cases, that
ZM73 had other things on his mind at the time, like trying to prove his
identity!
