Why Did No.6 Resign?

Number 2 had Number 6’s life researched and computed, and as to the question of why he resigned, it all boiled down to three people, A B and C. But in the end, having resigned his job, he really was going on holiday, which is what he told Engadine. He was going somewhere different, somewhere quiet where he could think. Somehow I think the computer got its wires crossed. Certainly the failure could not be attributed to the lack of basic facts!
