The Tunnel of Love

    ‘The Girl Who was Death’ is not the only episode of ‘the Prisoner’ to feature a “Tunnel of Love.”

   At the funfair Mr. X is told to go to the tunnel of love by Killer Kaminski, that Polish giant who turns out to be Irish! And so as Mr. X slowly floats along the tunnel of love, the Girl poses in an alcove along the tunnel like a spectre, waiting to proclaim her love for him. Because she is beginning to love him, in her own way, except this girl’s love could be easily be the death of Mr. X!

    However ‘The Girl Who was Death’ is not the only episode of ‘the Prisoner’ to feature a “Tunnel of Love.” The second tunnel of love, and this might be stretching a point, appears in ‘Fall Out.’ There is no beautiful spectral Girl, but the Beatles singing ‘All You Need Is Love’ does fill the tunnel as Number 6, the Supervisor, and the Butler make their way along it to the cavern. Which taken into consideration with the song, could be seen as a metaphor for “The Cavern” in Liverpool where the Beatles performed in the 1960’s.
