So if Nadia Rakovsky wants to hear the chimes of Big Ben, she’ll have to be quick about it! Although technically it’s not Big Ben which creates the chimes, Big Ben only strikes the hour, bong! The chimes are made by the other peel of bells, Big Ben only What’s more the bell tower isn’t called Big Ben, it used to be called St. Stephen’s Tower until it was renamed Elizabeth Tower for the Queen Elizabeth’s diamond Jubilee in 2012.

  1. Wasn't there also the problem of the whole Big Ben area, the building, sinking into the mud underground and the tower thereby gradually and slowly leaning over so it has to be reected like the tower of Pisa? We'd better be quick! - BCNU!

    1. Hello Arno,
I am beginning to feel better at last. Last night was the fifth night without sleep due to a perprtual cough which my chest infection brought about.

Yes that's true, and as far as I am aware the problem still exists. In fact the whole building of the Houses of Parliament need refurbishing. One chap regularly has the desk in his office drenched in urine leaking from pipes the toilets above his office!

      Very kind regards
