some one should have told him “be careful what you wish for, you might just get
it.” And as it happens it wasn’t much of a holiday for Thorpe, fictionally
speaking!
A fortnight’s leave in The Village, what does he think it is, a holiday resort? Well compared to Sing Sing I expect it is. And wouldn’t Thorpe fit right in, he’d be just the man for the job of Number 2. He was very sceptical about ZM73’s report, but I wonder how long it would take him to find a link to whoever is behind The Village? Perhaps he would volunteer for duty there. I expect it wouldn’t take Thorpe long to be a corporal in anyone’s organisation. What he wouldn’t do, or have done to an ex-colleague. It would be interesting if fictionally Number 2 of ‘Hammer Into Anvil’ turned out to be Thorpe of ‘Many Happy Returns.’ But if Thorpe had been Number 2, then he might have got what he wished for, but it wouldn’t be what he expected. After all Number 6 left Number 2 a broken man, possibly ending his days on the psychiatric ward of The Village hospital
