It would
appear that in The Village citizens and citizenesses take their number to the
grave. Does this mean that any such number etched on a headstone for the dead,
that number no longer exists in the Village amongst the living? Number 13 for
example, you will no doubt recall how Number 2 told the Supervisor that Number
113 doesn’t exist, she was an old woman who died a month ago. Is it the old
woman who no longer exists in The Village, or the number?
