Caught On Camera!

    A search is made of Number 6’s wardrobe at his suggestion. Number 2 and this operative with his metal detector are searching for the Professor’s tape recorder. The tape recorder isn’t in the wardrobe, however hanging there is Number 6’s other piped blazer, together with his own suit. The same suit which was supposed to have been burnt in ‘Arrival,’ but was seemingly being worn by an infantile patient at the hospital. The same suit which was specially delivered to him for the occasion of Carnival, and yet here it is hanging in the wardrobe in a scene in ‘The General!’ It doesn’t quite hang right does it, this plot about a suit of clothes. And yet it would have, had ‘Dance of The Dead’ been kept in its original place of second in the screening order, therefore before ‘The General’ not after.

It’s Your Funeral

    Another question of time, simply because Number 50 took a long time making up her mind to go and see Number 6. Why, because she needed his help in preventing an assassination! So this interim Number 2, the first one we have come across, is behind with Plan Division Q. A plan which involves Number 6 at its very heart, so to give it credibility when he goes and warns Number 2 of the assassination plot against him! This the Number 2 who has been away on leave, which is also new, because as far as we can say no Number 2 has ever left The Village to go on leave. But it just goes to show we learn much about The Village as we go along. And it would appear that his Number 2, who has recently returned to The Village, has never before had any such dealings with Number 6, he barely knows who he is, lucky for him! And Number 6 certainly doesn’t know who Number 2 is. Perhaps he has been far too busy with his administrative details, as he works behind the scenes, leaving interim Number 2’s to deal with the likes of Number 6! But then I have said it before, and I’ll say it again. No plan involving Number 6 ever succeeded, the interim Number 2 should have taken a closer look when he was reading Number 6’s file!

The Therapy Zone

   And so the great day was nearly over, it went off rather well Number 6 thought, better than planned in fact. And then the new Number 2 could look forward to his own retirement, and Number 6 is sure they will arrange something equally suitable for him when the day comes.
   “Be seeing you…won’t I?” said Number 6, there is a question mark over that, oh not like the word Security in The Tally Ho, but will Number 6 actually see this new Number 2 again? Because he had never met the previous Number 2 before the onset of Appreciation Day. He was trying to prevent his assassination, which of course he did. More than that Number 6 managed to orchestrate the retired Number 2’s escape, knowing that he could not have put the detonator to his own advantage.
   So where does that leave this retired Number 2? Because as the new Number 2 looked to the sky, the helicopter was turning back towards The Village, but on whose authority? Had Number 1 intervened? Had the Supervisor ordered the pilot to return to The Village? The helicopter might have been taken under remote control as in ‘Arrival’ when Number 6 had attempted to escape by helicopter. More likely it was on the word of the retried Number 2, because he was all too well aware that they would catch up with him eventually wherever he went. And everyday he would be looking over his shoulder. So to save him all that grief perhaps Number 2 decided to return to The Village. After all he had nothing to fear, it was not his fault that Plan Division Q had failed. Perhaps Number 2 saw this as an opportunity to be able to return to The Village and live out the rest of his life in quiet retirement in the Old People’s Home.

Hammer Into Anvil

   I have wondered if this Number 2 is Thorpe of ‘Many Happy Returns,’ fictionally I like to think they are one and the same person. But if not I wonder where they got this paranoid person? How was it he came to be appointed Number 2? He saw conspiracy everywhere, and enemies within The Village, but no-on knows who they are, perhaps they do not exist except in Number 2’s paranoid mind. Mind you, Number 12 in ‘The General’ did make mention of dissidents, of which he might well have been one. And in ‘It’s Your Funeral’ there is a list of malcontents, of which Number 6 is top of the list! So these enemies are not all in Number 2’s mind after all!
    He trusts no-one, he calls Number 14 a traitor when all the time he has been loyal, and only wanted to serve. 14 wanted to give Number 6 a dusting down, he said he’d really enjoy that, Kosho was the challenge that was accepted. Number 6 of course enjoyed a semi-weekly Kosho practise, and soon got the better of Number 14. But for the life of me I cannot understand why Number 6 didn’t dunk 14 into the tank of water.
   The doctor once said to Number 6 that life in The Village suits him, well it didn’t seem to suit this particular Number 2!

Village Life!

   “That looks rather suspicious.”
   “What do you think they’re doing?”
   “Perhaps it’s a mothers meeting!”
   “It could be the first meeting of the Prisoner fan club!”
   “The what?”
   “The Prisoner fan club.”
   “That would be just like Number 6 to make himself the President!”

   “Can’t you get the audio?”
   “The mics kaput!”
   “Do you think he’s fixed it?”
   “If he had it would be working!”
   “You trying to be funny?”
   “Obviously not!”
   “Better have him in for questioning. I want to know all about this club, its aims, its ideals, and purpose.”
   “You think it could be subversive!”
   “No not at all. I want to know whether it’s worth joining or not!”

    They work fast in The Village! Only a few moments ago the Prisoner looked into this therapy room where people were sitting on the floor wearing headphones, eye masks, and Judo garb whilst undergoing therapy treatment. But soon after the Prisoner left the examination room having undergone a medical, he looks into the self same room again. The previous patients have all been removed, the lighting altered, and this infantile man has been installed to undergo seeming incomprehensible therapy that only the doctor can understand, “Ah he’s coming along nicely,” the doctor comments, plus the patents wearing the Prisoner’s clothes.......why? Perhaps the previous patients had come to the end of their therapy session, but if they had its still quick work to make the necessary changes! Removal of the patients themselves, not to mention the computer banks, but the lighting would be simple to change. It makes me wonder if it’s all done simply for effect!

Time And Tide Wait For No Man!

    In ‘Free For All’ when only a few moments before Number 6 was seen floundering in the water having had to abandon the jet boat, a Mini-Moke/ambulance towing a Red Cross trailer is seen speeding to his assistance. Number 6 having been brought to shore by three Guardians. And then taken to hospital by ambulance. The same type of scene would have followed when Nadia was in much the same situation during ‘The Chimes of Big Ben’, having been brought to shore by three Guardians, her unconscious body cared for by hospital medics. But that doesn’t account for the swiftness of the out-going tide in ‘Free For All.’. And yet that same team of medics were on the self same mission that day when the Prisoner attempted to escape by Mini-Moke along the beach. He’d been confronted by the membranic Guardian that time, and lay unconscious on the beach! You see most events in The Village are relative, have either happened before, or are bound to happen again at one time or another!
