Escape!

In the Prisoner only three episodes deals with the question of escape - Arrival - The Chimes of Big Ben - Free For All - Many Happy Returns, and Checkmate. I don't count Fall Out because that is a totally different kettle of fish altogether. Why so few attempts by No.6 to escape? Perhaps because there are so few ways to try and escape. Mind you I am surprised that No.6 took to the sea to leave the village in Many Happy Returns, when he could have filled the village taxi and could then have driven away across country. Yes there was the imposing mountains, but before he reached the mountains in the episode, there was miles and miles of open countryside!

Village Pin-Up

Nadia Grey, No.8-Nadia in The Chimes of Big Ben. Television star yes. But but long before the Prisoner came along Nadia was both a model and film star, and is a real favourite with me, the saucy little minx!

Pictorial PRISONER

The Prisoner tries to force a point, by bringing the palm of his hand down upon Two's desk. He manages to disturb a cup in it's saucer, but not as forcibly as Patrick McGoohan did. Perhaps he's not angry enough!

Caught On Camera

Filming an exciting series like the Prisoner wasn't always an exciting exprience all the time for some - observe No.8-Rosalie Crutchley for example, on the day of the shoot of the human chess game for Checkmate.

Everyone Votes For A Dictator!

The moment No.6 is voted in as the new No.2 in the episode Free For All, No.6 begins to act like a dictator! He tries to force his will on the people....... he is in command, and will imobilise all electronic controls. Then the new No.2's voice is heard booming out across the village via the public address system "Listen to me, you are free to go, free to go, free to go. Obey me and be free." but it seems that the good citizens of the community do not want to be free, as no-one takes heed of No.2's words. The people simply just go about their daily business as though there had never been any elections at all!
Then as the new No.2's voice booms out over the village, in the central Piazza, and not so long having just walked up the steps to the Green Dome, stands the figure of the Prisoner dressed in his charcoal grey suit, which he wore on the day of his arrival in the village! Okay, it's obviously a piece of film footage from Arrival and reused in Free For All, but when I first saw this it got my imagination going. There was the alter-ego who turns out to be No.1 in Fall Out, who is now in No.2's office, having been elected as the new No.2, on the day of the Prisoner's arrival in the village. Is that enigmatic enough for you? Well I'm off to lie down in a darkened room for ten minutes!
