Caught On Camera

    The lady in the picture, standing watching the Brass Band emerge from the Pink Pavillion, is a maid working for Portmeiron, who had perhaps just finished working in one of the cottages. After all, life in Portmeirion went on as normal, with guests staying there while 'the Prisoner' was being filmed there in September 1966. It's a wonder that the director or even the cameraman didn't see the woman standing that and say "cut!" But obviosuly they didn't, perhaps thinking that television viewers would think she is a maid working in the Village, which indeed she was!

   In 'Free For All,' when confronted by the butler, why did No.6 run away?

Observation:The butler isn't wearing his blak tailed coat! Perhaps it's his afternooin off!

On The Village McGoohan said.......

..........."It was trying to destroy the individual by every means possible; trying to break his spirit so that he accepts that he is a number - No.6 - and will live there happily after. But he is the one rebel they can't break."

   Well that's as may be, but it wasn't long before this rebel can make a mistake. Indeed it was during the episode of 'The Chimes of Big Ben' that the Prisoner actually admitted to Nadia-No.8 as to who he was.

    "No names. I am No.6, you are No.8."

   So the evidence is clear, that the Prisoner accepted his number so early in the game. But then perhaps that was better than to actually give his name away. One wonders why he did not, after all Nadia Rakovski, if that was in fact her real name, told No.6 who she was. Well, the Prisoner has, in the past, been used to using pseudonyms. He could have told her that his name was Peter Smith, possibly as false as Nadia's!

The Village

   Having brought No.6 to the village, was possibly the biggest mistake the villages administration could make. When you have so many sheep, and then to bring a goat amongst them, well it's bound to lead to trouble!

Many Happy Returns

    This is not so much as escaping the village, but a great leap of faith No.6 is about to undertake. A dangerous sea journey to where? Because No.6 has no idea of where he is sailing from, so he cannot judge where he is sailing to!

   It would seem that anywhere is preferable to the Village, and No.6 is well prepared to take the risk. Never a man to simply sit about and see what happens. Certainly this episode turned out to be a voyage of discovery for No.6!

Living In Harmony

   It was once suggested that the episode Living In Harmony should be placed in the running order of the Prisoner second from last, just before ‘Once Upon A Time’ in fact. This is due to the idea that during Living In Harmony "they" are grooming No.6 for a position of authority offered to him during ‘Fall Out,’ as Sheriff in Harmony.

   But surely the Sheriff had resigned his job at the beginning, just as the Prisoner had done. True the Judge was using every strategy to coerce the stranger in becoming Town Sheriff for Harmony, which the stranger resisted any such coercion. But one can only resist coercion for so long, and so reluctantly he was forced to accept the position of Town Sheriff.

   It's one point of view I suppose, No.6 being groomed for a position of power. But really at the end of ‘Living In Harmony’ we do actually learn the reason behind the episode "Fill him full of hallucinatory drugs! Put him in a dangerous environment! Talk to him through microphones. Give him love, take it away. Isolate him. make him kill, then face him with death. He'll crack. Break him, even in his mind, and the rest will be easy."

  Doesn't sound much like "grooming No.6 for a position of power to me!"

Thought For The Day

 “The One And Only Number 6”

     As No.2 once introduced him during the election campaign.

 Of course he was the one and only! Seeing as how there is only ever one of any such number at anyone time in the Village. But I wonder what No.6's predecessor was like?

 “Vote For Me And I’ll Be Ever So Comfortee”

   It's quite remarkable really that no-one from the press asked any member of the electorate why they were voting for No.6! I mean would you have voted for No.6 and why? What had No.6 really to offer the community such as the Village?....... No I can't think of anything either!

   I had never realised before that 'The Cat and Mouse' nightclub is "Members Only."
   Also what was the butler doing behind the rhododendrons?

    If you watch the surveillance film footage as No.6 is making his way passed the swimming pool, you can see suddenly how the black and white striped umbrella opens and the butler then emerges from behind the rhododendrons. Because as it is the scene suggests that the butler has just come from the helicopter, and perhaps that is the reason for the butler to be there.
