And writing of shadows, here's the shadow of Rover as 'it' passes by whilst on patrol out in the desert at the outset of Harmony, accompanied by the usual 'Rover' sound effect. It was quite eerie the first time.
You may remember this Shopkeeper from the Prisoner episode Hammer Into Anvil, a right weasle of a character he is.
As soon as No.6 leaves the General Store, the Shopkeeper telephones No.2 to report on No.6's activities - that of having listened to the opening few seconds of six recordings of the same record, Bizet's L'arlesienne suite. Then goes running off to the Green Dome with said records and No.6's copy of The tally Ho under his arm. This shopkeeper's role is reinvented with this fellow, 37927, the shopkeeper of The Village Store, which enjoys the slogan For All Your Needs, just as long as it's a copy of the Village map!
First 37927 telephones the Clinic and reports Six to Two after he has been asking the shopkeeper about a receit for a knife, which the Shopkeeper isn't allowed to sell to citizens. And later the shopkeeper again telephones the Clinic to report an Un-Two to Two, for smoking an illicit cigarette in his store. In the village cigarettes are sold 'under the counter,' no longer on open display. Which is ironic really, as that is how cigarettes will be sold here in the United Kingdom if many have their way. Further more, the village of the original series enjoys a type of Jazz night club, the Cat & Mouse. The village of THEPRISONER has the Go-inside bar, which seems to cater for all needs, religious, and sexual pesuations. As on three different ocasions there are scantily clad male dancers in the cages. Another time a Gospel choir, and another scantily clad young women in the cages. With a number of customers apparently looking at peep-shows through bright slits in the wall. No matter what Patrick McGoohan might have thought about the 2009 production
of THEPRISONER would never have approved of that! Be seeing you.
