It has been said that the inspiration behind the Prisoner episode The Schizoid Man is the film The Prisoner of Zenda starring Stewart Granger, apparently it was Patrick McGoohans favourite film. Well my research into the Prisoner has shown that many parallels can be drawn between the series and several literary works, both novels and short stories. Kafka's The Trial for one, and it was Arther Connan Doyle who perhaps first brought the alter egos of one man together - one to perish, and one to survive, much in the same way as No.1 and No.6 - said to be the alter ego of one man!
