Postcard From The Village

The Village was deserted! And so in not wanting to hang around to find out what happens next, No.6 decided that this was his best chance to escape the Village once and for all  - without knowing from where he was escaping nor where he was escaping to - I suppose it was a kind of leap of faith, just as long as it wasn't out of the frying pan into the fire!
The only creature to see No.6 about to cast off his sea-going raft, was a black cat, and it was that same black cat which watched No.6 return to the Village. The same black cat which accompanied No.2 into No.6's cottage at the end of Many Happy Returns.
'You're not allowed animals, its a rule' No.6's personal maid-No.54 tells him in Dance of the Dead. Yes that same black cat has turned up again, and No.2 lays claim to the cat, 'She's mine. Oh she works here as well, she's terribly efficient - almost ruthless.' So, do we take it that this No.2 of Dance of the Dead was in the Village during Many Happy Returns, as well as Mrs Butterworth? Well as with cats they say they have two homes, perhaps with the Village cat it has two mistresses! But strange, that we do not see the black Village cat after Dance of the Dead. Perhaps the cat departed the Village with No.2, or because there are no more female No.2's to follow the line!
       Be seeing you.
