A Favourite Scene In The Prisoner The Chess Match

You start off with a full board, and as the game progresses the pieces begin to be taken off the board, yet at one point, towards the end game, most of the chess pieces are back on the board, as though they are still going through the opening moves! I particularly like the point when Number Six asks Number 8 {the white Queen} "Who is Number One?" It is a question Number 8 avoids "That was a good move wasn't it?" she responds, but Number Six knows a better one, away from the Village.
"The substitute, the substitute, call the substitute" booms out the voice of the Supervisor over the entire Village. I mean why would they need to be prepared for a substitution? This is a chess match, not a football match!
As for the Rook making a move all his own. Well seeing as both sides look alike, if I'd have been the Rook, I would have simply turned around on my square, thus changing sides. An act which would surely have disrupted the game at some point.
Have you tried playing that game of chess of Checkmate? It doesn't work, and after McGoohan and Don Chaffey had previously, and so painstakingly, worked out the moves prior to filming the scene.
Be seeing you tomorrow, back on the chessboard.
