Tonight On The Video Channel

   Tonight it's the ultimate test of "Degree Absolute," but I used to think that was a mistake, I thought it should have been "Decree Absolute."
   Poor old No.2, he's put under pressure right from the start when his chair rises up through the floor to see the white membranic mass of the Village Guardian sat in it, delusions of grandeur perhaps. What's more he's only got a week to gain the reason behind No.6's resignation, yet when he does, No.2 "Why did you resign?" No.6 "For peace." No.2 "For peace?" No.6 "For peace of mind. because too many people know too much!" No.2 doesn't appear to have been listening, as he asks No.6 to tell him again, to which No.6 simply replies "You've been told." Perhaps the reason No.6 gave for his resignation simply wasn't good enough for No.2, that there had to be something more to it than simply resigning for peace of mind!
    No.6 is regressed to his childhood in the attempt to re-construct the Prisoner's life from the cradle to the grave. But No.2 is exhausted before he even starts in the Embryo Room, seeing as he's been up all night reciting nursery rhymes to the slumbering No.6!

   This episode is a wonderful piece of one on one drama, with the Butler aiding in any way possible during the deliberations between Number's 2 and 6, as well as acting as manservant to them both. From cooking and cleaning, to wardrobe assistant, creating special effects, and dishing out corporal punishment! But towards the end even the Butler knew which side his bread was buttered! It must have been the Butler who did it, who laced No.2's drink, but on whose instruction, and when did he receive such an instruction?
