Thought For The Day
Number 6 wanting peace of mind from Number 1. But he would not “rat” on Number 1, he kept his secret, and in that he made himself a prisoner!
I'm not quite sure if Number 6 would have had even the possibility to rat on Number 1. I think he didn't know who he was, until he was faced with him. Maybe not even after this encounter.
But it's an interesting point, that he resigned for peace of mind, also peace of mind from Number 1. If he really remembered the identity of Number 1, then maybe his inquiries who Number 1 is were more about "Who is he, it can't be me, so, who?"
But if he had been aware of Number 1s identity, could it really have helped? I'm not quite sure, seeing Number 1 as the part of Number 6 who was constantly working against his freedom and piece of mind.
An interesting comment. With 'the Prisoner' the Village can be a physicasl place, or of the mind. Who can say what was in the mind of the Prisoner-No.6, or indeed the state of his mind. Seeing as he was supposed to have been struggling against himself! The reason why the Prisoner was looking for peace of mind. I assume that it was No.1 who had taken away his freedom by having him abducted to the Village. But then this goes against the idea that it was either the Prisoner's own people who had him abducted to the Village, or the "other side." I'm beginning to think that 'Fall Out' has a great deal to answer for, and Patrick McGoohan for having written it in the first place!
