Teabreak Teaser

In Checkmate, why should No.6 think No.8-the white Queen knows who No.1 is?

  1. It would appear to be a habit of No. 6 asking whether another person knew who No. 1 was. Presumably he didn't expect a meaningful answer but you could never be sure, by chance... - BCNU!

  2. In my opinion sometimes this question is a simple provocation. He asks Nadia, too. I guess he would have been very surprised if someone had answered. Somehow I always thought that was a way of showing them that he kept asking questions and wanted others to do so, too.

  3. Hello Arno and Jana,
Have you noticed that it is only Number 6 who asks who is Number 1, even though he was told in the opening sequence! Anyway, if you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer, even if you are not happy with the answer, or expect nothing meaningful in return for having asked the question in the first place. But as you say, you could never be sure, so ask the question anyway.
That's interesting, by asking the question No.6 is trying to provoke, and he would have been surprised if someone answered because No.6 is No.1 all the time! Ah, we might know that, but does No.6?

Very kind regards to you both
