Comrade No.2!
Number 2 is about to retire! Although he has
never had any direct dealings with Number 6 himself, the impression given is
that they had never even met before their meeting in ‘It’s Your Funeral.
Comrade Number 2 has nonetheless been one of the most industrious of all Number
2’s in working for the good of the community and its citizens. Amongst his many
achievements is the electrification of the clocks. A project on a small scale
perhaps, but as Stalin said about socialism in respect to electricity at the
Congress of Soviets in December 1920 “Communism equals Soviet
Power plus the Electrification of the entire country.”
Do Not Forsake Me My Darling!
Janet Portland just happened to be passing
by No.1
Buckingham Place, the home of her fiancé ZM73 {for want of a better name}
when she saw his Lotus Seven parked outside his home. She quickly mounts the
steps and rings the doorbell {that’s a mistake the house has no doorbell,
Number 6 uses the door knocker when he returns to his home on ‘Many Happy
Returns’} and ZM73 for want of a better name, goes to open the front door to
find Janet Portland standing on the doorstep. Obviously she doesn’t recognize
the man who opened the door to her, the Colonel, while there can be no doubt
that Number 6/ZM73’s mind would instantly recognize his fiancée!
“His car, is he back. Is he with you?”
“His car, is he back. Is he with you?”
“Yes” he replies, but makes no attempt to
show that he recognizes her.
It was Number 6/ZM73’s mind which is housed
inside the Colonel’s body, with all his thoughts and emotions. Presumably he
loved his fiancée, whom he had not seen for a year, and yet he showed no emotion
towards her whatsoever on seeing her when she turned up on his doorstep. No
matter what Number 6/ZM73 looks like, I should have thought his first instinct
would have been to take Janet in his arms being so happy to see her again. But
what then? Surely Janet would have repelled this stranger’s advances towards
her, because it’s the Colonel she sees, and not her fiancée. Number 6/ZM73 may
well have realized that, and in his confused state for those few seconds at
seeing his fiancée again the moment was gone. It would take him time to think
of a way to approach Janet, and so he has to wait for the opportunity which
finally presents itself at her birthday party. And after that tender embrace,
what then? Number 6/ZM73 would have to explain to Janet as to the reason why he
looks like someone else, the Colonel. That might take some explaining I should
have thought!

The Therapy Zone
The Prisoner, I was twelve
when I first watched the series, and I’ve been a fan, or obsessive ever since.
Not that I’m on my own in that regard, as there are many, many like me to be
found. Although I am aware of some who have managed to break through the
conditioning, and turned away from the Prisoner. Perhaps having done so, they
are the free men and women, and me and those like me, remain Prisoners of the
Prisoner. Well aren’t we all Prisoners of something or other, so why not of
something we like, enjoy, and share a passion for. After all what harm can it
do? Through the Prisoner, Patrick McGoohan showed us the way, to question, not
to accept things as they are, to protest, and to stand up when something is
being done that is wrong. “Hell, who do you think you are? You can’t do that to
me, I’m going to tell someone about you, and get you stopped!” well something
on those lines. I’ve rebelled, I’ve stood up and voiced my opinion on several
occasions. And I’ve resigned on no fewer than three separate occasions. On one
occasion I ended up in The Village, although that was on a two week holiday.
Well as it happened, I, like Number 6, needed time to think. So I went
somewhere quiet, somewhere different, that was Portmeirion.
On the first occasion I went to the Village was back in the 1980’s, I remained isolated there, I didn’t leave The Village for three days. And then on the third day I drove into Porthmadog, and it seemed too busy, too noisy after the cocoon like atmosphere of The Village, which I was happy to return to. That in turn made me wonder what it would have been like for Number 6, to return to the hustle and bustle of London, after months of isolation in The Village. It’s no wonder Number 6 couldn’t wait to get back to The Village in ‘Many Happy Returns,’ seeking quiet solitude, and peace of mind.

Thought For The Day
Most citizens, even the
prisoners are at liberty to enjoy free movement in The Village. Even Roland Walter
Dutton was released from the hospital so that he might reconsider his position
in the peaceful atmosphere of The Village. And yet when it comes to the
Professor and Madam Professor they are not permitted to leave the comfort of
their home and go out into The Village itself. That’s why they do not wear
numbered badges, and are permitted to wear their own clothes. The only contact
The Professor has with other people, are Number 2, his very attentive doctor,
and a nurse. Madam Professor is slightly better off, as she is allowed to hold
her art seminars in the garden of her home, the only opportunity afforded to
her to meet with other citizens of The Village. The Professor and his wife
might have lived in an elegant, well furnished house, but it was nothing more
than a prison cell in which they were held, for the greater part of their time,
in close isolation! It’s no wonder she and her husband became disillusioned,
their treatment would have gone some way in bringing that about. Especially when
The Professor and Madam Professor had gone to The Village of their own free
will!

Quote For The Day
“If I had just a little bit
more time.”
“We’re running late as it is.”
“In know that, better than anybody.”
{The Supervisor and the interim Number 2 – It’s Your Funeral}
“We’re running late as it is.”
“In know that, better than anybody.”
{The Supervisor and the interim Number 2 – It’s Your Funeral}
So, even this interim Number 2 was under pressure
due to the lack of time. Well he wouldn’t be the first, and he certainly will
not be the last! In this instance Number 2 blamed it on the girl, Monique, who
apparently took her time in making up her mind to go and see Number 6, and it
was this that put the schedule behind. We don’t know how much time Number 2 was
given in total to bring about a satisfactory conclusion to Plan Division Q, or
even how long it took for the planning of the plan! Number 2 of ‘A B and C’ had
been given three days after the initial planning. And later Number 2 of ‘Once
Upon A Time’ would be given a week in order to extract the reason behind the
Prisoner’s resignation. So perhaps this Interim Number 2 had been given a few
days, more than three, less than a week. But in the end time doesn’t really
matter, because Plan Division Q was flawed. The flaw being that it involved
Number 6!

Had An Accident?
Number 6 has hurt
himself, poor old chap! He must have fallen off his Penny Farthing! But he’s a
man of determination!
“I’ll ride this thing even if it kills me!”
