Bureau of Visual Records

The prisoner known as Number 6 has been held captive in The Village for 15 months. But having vindicated the right of the individual to be individual, he is offered a very generous compensation package. His house is being made ready for him. Above and beyond this, the Prisoner is told he can desert them and go anywhere. The key to his house, travellers cheques one million, and a passport valid for anywhere, and a leather drawstring purse of petty cash. He is then free to go. But is this enough compensation for a man who has been incarcerated in The Village against his will? To have both his liberty and identity taken away from him, to have been reduced to nothing more than a mere number? Questioned, interviewed, his mind conditioned, his body treated with numerous drugs, and worse. No it isn’t! Only to be brought face to face with Number 1, the man, person, or thing to be responsible for his having been brought to The Village, and treatment thereafter! That being himself, Number 1, his own worst enemy, whom he vanquishes, then takes the compensation package and runs like blazes!

Escaped!

   “Anyone at home?”
   “Oh no, not you again!”
“You don’t look pleased to see me!”
“You’re not going to shout at me again are you?”
“You know what you are don’t you?”
“I’m sure you’re going to tell me.”
   “You’re a **!*ster!”
   “A what?”
“A **!*ster. You had me put in The Village!”
   “I had you what?”
“I resigned, you had me abducted and put in The Village.”
   “Where?”
“The Village, it’s a place where people turn up, people who cannot be left around. People who have knowledge which is of importance to one side or the other.”
“Well what did you expect us to do after you resigned?”
“I expected to be left alone. I resigned, for which I gave you my reasons.”
“But people like you cannot think they can come in here shouting the odds at me and then expect to get away with it. Anyway we didn’t accept your resignation.”
   “What?”
“A man like you, of your calibre, you are too good a man to lose….look what is it you want?”
   “Compensation!”

You Miss it When It’s Not There!

First he was annoyed because he couldn’t switch the loudspeaker off because it had no on/off switch. So he trampled it to pieces underfoot, but even that didn’t stop the incessant music.
“How do you stop this thing?”
   “We can’t, it’s automatic.”
   “Who controls it?”
Yes someone must control it! Because when the music stops playing, as the maid-Number 66 begins to cry, there is no more music. The maid leaves and then an electrician turns up with a replacement loudspeaker, which he then places on a small table and knocks twice on it, and the music begins. It cannot be that the knocks activate the loudspeaker, but it might be a signal for the microphones, so that whoever does control the music, knows to activate the loudspeaker. A loudspeaker with no aerial, and no mains lead for that matter. So it might well be possible that The Village has wi-fi technology!
Then during ‘The Chimes of Big Ben,’ Number 6 had found a more subtle way of rendering silence to his cottage, by placing the loudspeaker in the refrigerator.
But then one day Number 6 wakes up to find the water has been cut off, as well as the electricity. More than that, there isn’t even any piped music playing! He picks up the loudspeaker, he can’t switch it on, there being no on/off switch. So he shakes the loudspeaker, but to no avail, silence reigns! It just goes to show that no matter how irritating something is, you miss it when its not there!

Collectors Corner

On Friday while out and about doing some shopping, Morag and I visited a number of charity shops. In one I found the above diecast model of a Caterham Super Seven on a shelf. It loomed large at me because of its Prisoner livery. However it wasn’t ‘the Prisoner’ which I automatically called to mind, it was my film ‘Village Day.’ Because this is the type pf Caterham Super seven which features in the film.
Also there was a diecast model of an Alfa Romeo, but it was the wrong colour, so that remained on the shelf, while I happily purchased the Caterham Super Seven, which happens to be the first acquisition for my collection in quite some time.

What Was In Your Mind? Were You Attempting Suicide, Suicide?

The Village appears to enjoy a high mortality rate, and suicide seems to be a favoured way to free oneself of The Village. After all as the Rook-Number 58 said in Checkmate "Death is an escape. And one day I'll die and beat you all!"
Cobb was supposed to have committed suicide by jumping out of the hospital window in ‘Arrival.’ Nadia-Number 8 went off on her swim during ‘The Chimes of Big Ben,’ but sadly she could not swim so far! And at the hospital she was put through an interrogation session at which the repeated question was put to her by the disembodied voice of the Supervisor-No.28. "What was in your mind? Were you attempting suicide, suicide? What was in your mind?"
Then in the episode ‘Dance of the Dead’ as Number 6 stood on the edge of the round outlook on top of the cliffs No.2 turned and asked him "You're not thinking of jumping?" Possibly afraid of another mortality by suicide, but he never jumped. However No.73 jumped..... out of the hospital window, driven to suicide as she was by No.2 at the outset of ‘Hammer Into Anvil.’ What’s more Number 6 went to the window to see if the body lay on the ground….just making sure?
But Number 73's suicide was not the last which The Village would see. That particular honour goes to Number 8 soon after he had strangled Number 22 to death with his bare hands in the Silver Dollar Saloon in ‘Living In Harmony,’ by throwing himself off the balcony, landing at the feet of the Judge. Sorry I meant Number 2.

Caught On Camera!

Is this the helicopter pilot whom Number 9 in ‘Arrival,’ claimed to know? Thus implying that it was the helicopter pilot who gave her the Electro Pass for certain favours!
There is one thing certain about this helicopter pilot, and that is he is the only person who is allowed to come and go from The Village on a daily basis!
