I would have thought, that if the Prisoner was in such a hurry to get away, that he would have had his wallet, passport, and airline ticket on him, and the two suitcases in the Lotus, so that after he had handed in his letter of resignation, he could have driven straight to the airport.
But then I suppose it would have only postponed the inevitable. 'They' would have caught up with him eventually. That one day the Prisoner would return to his hotel room, or new home, go to bed, only to wake up in the Village, as in the case of Cobb.
