Thought For The Day
Why has the Prisoner no costume? It might be as No.2 tells him, that perhaps he doesn't exist. That would make him the phantom of the Ball. On the other hand, it might simply be that the Prisoner is above such bourgois epatant!
Hi David, I'm not quite sure, because the costume was chosen for him by someone else. Number 2, I guess. I thought perhaps it was a way to tell him that his old clothes are nothing more than a disguise, because the self who owned this clothes doesn't exist any longer, it's nothing more than a phantasy just like Peter Pan.. But of course, if it was meant this way then he managed to ignore it. Very best wishes, Jana BCNU
That's a fair comment. In truth I heard the phrase "bourgois epatant" in a Sherlock Holmes story, when at a fancy dress party Holmes {Jeremy Brett} was in his everyday clothes. I liked the phrase, and thought to use it in a piece of blog. True it doesn't work as well as I'd like, but there it is.
Hello David, but I like this phrase, too. It's somehow fitting for No6's character, sometimes, in my opinion. Nice twist.. And it's a different idea how to read this scene.
