Just what was it that the Village's Administration achieved through the elections of Free For All? It seems an awful lot of trouble to go to for the sake of one man. To teach him a stern lesson, demonstrating to No.6 that he cannot win, no matter how hard he tries, and the harder he tries, the more uncomfortable it will become for him. The best the Village Administration got, was to see that No.6 got a physical beating at the fists of the two motor mechanics, when all the time the order was, 'not to damage the tissue.' But this is only the beginning. They have many ways and means, but they do not wish to damage him permanently.
IF, as we are supposed to believe, that No.6 and No.1 are the alter ego of the other. Then I can only assume that No.6 has incarcerated himself in the Village. That it is himself who is putting No.6 though the ordeals of the series, even through a form of self-persecution complex. And that would explain why No.2 is only allowed to go so far in the case against No.6, why the tissue musn't be damaged. Why no harm must befall No.6 in the Village. Why No.2 doesn't want a man of fragments. To borrow one of No.2's sayings 'The Devil looks after his own,' meaning No.1! BCNU
