“Tell Number One I did my duty.”

{The Colonel – Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling}
So
the Colonel knew about No.1, does that mean that each of the Colonels
encountered in ‘the Prisoner’ were working for the village? The first Colonel, together
with Fotheringay were. Possibly so too Colonel James and Thorpe, only it’s
difficult to say whether they were or not, and certainly impossible to
establish one way or the other, so there is a question mark over those two. The
Colonel in ‘Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling’ was most definitely a collaborator
working for the village, for which it cost him his life. But what of Colonel
Hawke-Englishe? He certainly has no contact with the village, he’s too busy
trying to hunt down the Girl Who Was Death, and is assassinated at the wicket
one run short of his century! However Potter eventually turned up in the
village at some point, as the manager of the Labour exchange. Then as assistant
to No.2, but perhaps he wasn’t any good at that job either, seeing as he was
later demoted as assistant to the Supervisor in the Control Room!
Be seeing you
