'Village Day,' the arthouse film I produced back in 1998-99 has it's faults, I am only too well aware of that. But there has always been one big disappointment for me is, that no-one who has seen the film has never put any interpretations to it, the same way fans of 'the Prisoner' do with that series. Perhaps one day.

Hello David,
ReplyDeleteNo.6's brother sustains a head injury as a result of the crash, but waking in The Village he has no sign of a head injury.
Is he 'dreaming ' The Village much the same as Helen in The Prisoner09.
If so - you were forward thinking and way ahead of your time........
Anna.
Hello Anna,
DeleteMay I say that you are the very first person to ask a question of 'Village Day.' that is very perceptive of you, I wouldn't say he was dreaming the Village, but it's certainly in his subconcious from the moment of the crash, to the moment he wakes up in hospital. And yet, having said that, in the closing credits we see a mini travelling to the Village, the driver's passenger.....the Prisoner, being taken to the Village!
Very kind regards
David
Be seeing you
Hello David,
ReplyDeleteI thought the ending was very good - he has not/cannot ultimately escape the Village!
If the village is in his subconcious, does that mean his mind is being manipulated whilst in hospital - the Village hospital. It must be so,because his car was rigged to crash. But his girlfriend picks him up from hospital at the end and takes him back to the village,so she is one of 'them'also.Hmmm - alot more thinking on my part to be done.
Best wishes,Anna
Hello Anna,
DeleteI must apologise, I had completely forgotten about your comment, that's not like me. I have so much to do, so much to think about, and this morning I had an early start because I've been busy giving the lounge and study a late spring clean. So please forgive me.
The thing about the film is, it's a vicious circle, in it's end is it's beginning. There can be no escape, not when Eleanor, his girl friend is working for the Village, she's even Popsy the clown, as well as assistant to No.2!
You have a fine grasp of 'Village Day' I must say. Yes the car crash was arranged, and it was that which put him in the hands of those who had him placed in the Village. And from that moment, he was indeed manipulated both in mind and body.
I like the contrasting No.2's. The first who see's himself as No.6's protector. And the new No.2 who looks upon No.6 as nothing more than a piece of meat for her to experiment with anytime she chooses. So who is there to protect him from her?!
Very kind regards
David
