The Former Number 6 had
vindicated the right of the individual to be individual. Overcome coercion,
held fast, maintained, fought, destroyed and resisted. He had shown them the
way, convinced them of their mistakes, they needed him. Therefore the former
Number 6 had been selected, and all about him is his. Perhaps they were about to stage a coup, using
the former Six to usurp Number 1, to replace him with his double, the former
Six. I am reminded of both ‘The Prisoner of Zenda’ by Anthony Hope and ‘The Man
In The Iron Mask’ by Alexandre Dumas. As it turned out there was a violent
revolution {even if one has to imagine the blood} directed against both Number
1 and his Village, but there was no coup,
that had failed, the President and members of the Assembly all fleeing in
terror!
Be seeing you
