     Well I can understand that, because why is the doctor messing about, wasting time, looking after what to all intents and purposes, is a dummy effigy of the Professor lying in his bed? Who does the doctor think he's fooling? No.2 must know it's not the Professor lying in that bed. Madam Professor must know it's not her husband lying in the bed, because it was Madam Professor who made the wax copy of her husbands head in the first place. You will recall how No.2 commented to Madam Professor "He's made a mess of your masterpiece."  So, if the Professor is not lying in his bed at home, but his doctor is there maintaining some illusion for whatever reason. Where is the Professor? And who is looking after him?
    None of the above is ever explained - it's as I say sometimes, it's inexplicable!
