Recently a friend of mine, Rick, kindly sent me a DVD containing film footage from the 1995 'Prisoner' Convention, and the interview with Alexis Kanner at the 1996 'Prisoner' Convention at Portmeirion. The DVD is for private viewing only, however the following three stills have been taken from the film footage.
"Don't forget what you came back for!" A re-enactment from 'Arrival' performed on the Friday evening.
Mister X boxes "old School" in a re-enactment of Barney's Boxing Booth scene from 'The Girl Who Was Death.'
"It's a knockout!" Killer Kaminski delivers the final punch!
In the old days, in the months after a Convention, and before the next one, Morag and I would have been busy organising re-enactment such as the above, for 'the Prisoner'
Conventions. We would have been learning our lines, and gathering costumes, and props used for any such re-enactment. The Chess match we organised from 1994 to 1998, but other re-enactments we tried to vary. This was the first time that the scene of Barney's Boxing Booth from 'The Girl Who Was Deah' was re-enacted. The deer stalker and dog coat were loaned to me by Steven Ricks, co-organiser of the Conventions, as were the dark glasses and furled umbrella. The frilly shirt was hand-made by Morag, and the suit I wore, identical to that as worn by Patrick McGoohan in 'the Prisoner.'
I remember that at time, seaching for props, or pieces of costume which was at times a bit of a panic, especially when we could not find exactly what we wanted after scouring many, many, many shops over the weeks and months. But we always got as close to the actual costumes as seen in 'the Prisoner' as we could.
The Conventions were always enjoyable, but were often over as soon as they began. Well that's how it seemed for Morag and I. As soon as we arrived on the Friday, to late on the Sunday evening, we were on the go. I rememeber once how we had finished one re-enactment, Morag and I decided to go for a stroll along the beach. We were relaxing on the rocks, and after five minutes I looked at my watch, it was time to go back to the Village and get ready for the chess match! It was all hard work, but Morag and I enjoyed organising, and performing in re-enactments {no matter how many each year} just as long as people there, members of the Convention, and day visitors to Portmeirion alike enjoyed the performances. that's all that mattered.
I'll be seeing you
