Thought For The Day

In Checkmate, while No.6 and his few reliable men, were carrying out the final part of their plan to escape, what exactly was the Supervisor and the Control Room personnel doing that time?
Yes, the Supervisor reported the aircraft in distress, that M.S. Polotska picked up the distress call, and No.2 said "Leave it to them." They didn't know they were dealing with No.6. But then it was reported that the searchlight crew in the Tower had been attacked. This also was reported to No.2, who said he would be right over, and he was about to leave for the Control Room when No.6 and his men stopped him. I wonder why it is, the Supervisor was not alerted to further trouble when No.2 didn't arrive at the Control Room? And then there are the Observers. One would have thought that one of them would have observed No.6 and the Rook down on the beach after curfew, as well as the Rook being cast off into the water aboard that rather flimsy raft, two rubber lilos tired together with a length of rope. Not a sea worthy raft at all. But then No.6 was improvising by that time!

Be seeing you
