It's thinking outside the box, but what if Number One is a single entity, "The One" it could be called. Everyone looks after number one, a good many people want to be number one. And there is the theory that Number One is Everyman. And one possible way for that to be, is if Number One is a shape-shifter! Meaning that whoever confronts Number One sees him or herself! So that if it were Number 48 who had been given to opportunity to meet Number One, Number One would have been in the form of Number 48.

ReplyDeleteI like the idea that everyone has it's own Number 1. If Number 1 was a shape-shifter I also could imagine that whoever faces him doesn't neccessarily see oneself but whoever one (conciously or unconciously) considers to be humans worst enemy. Just like in 1984 when Winston had to face his worst fear. McGoohans answer to this was that we ourselves are our worst enemy but there might be prisoners who come to another conclusion.
