Thought For The Day

I am always astonished by the photographs used in The Tally Ho newspaper. The one above for example accompanies the article about this candidate standing for election. A picture of No.6 wearing civilian clothes, and not Village attire. The above picture was also selected to be used on election publicity placards, so it's no wonder that people like me thought that No.6 was John Drake. And yet this picture has absolutely nothing to do with 'Danger Man' John Drake {not that I was aware of that at the time} because it happens to be Patrick McGoohan's publicity card. Perhaps that is why the picture was selected in the first place!
When it comes to election publicity placards, I should have thought that the following picture would have been far more app-ropriate.
By way of a footnote, I was reminded in a letter from an old friend who attended the screening of 'the Prisoner' on the big screen at The Prince Charles cinema in August, said he had been talking to people there about the original script of 'The Arrival' {original title for Arrival}, that in that script the name John Drake was used instead of "P" for Prisoner! But then I was aware of that.

Be seeing you

  1. PMcG's own publicity photo appears more appropriate than the lower of No. 6 because, obviously, it's more pleasing, "more friendly", that of No. 6 a bit "grim", while at the same time its appeal like a politician's smile is very general and neutral. One smile fits all. - BCNU!

    1. Hello Arno,

Fair comment. I had not considered the two photographs in that way. The top picture is more a more friendly image to present to the electorate. "One smile fits all," yes I like that.

      Very kind regards

  2. There must have been a reason why they chose this one for the credits sequence and the election campaign in particular. Most likely they could have come up with a shooting session for candidate No. 6, too, and use one photo explicitely showing No. 6. Of course, the reason may also be very trivial, no time, forgotten by the script or whatelse. - BCNU!

    1. Hello Arno,

There must indeed be a reason they chose that particular photograph, perhaps because it's charismatic. But as you say, the reason might be very trivial, no time to spare, working to their limit, and forgotten in the mists of time.

      Very kind regards
